Day 238 - Heads
I've been studying again. Tonight I was going over Andrew Loomis' book "Fun With A Pencil". It's a great find and I'm really enjoying how he makes drawing so approachable.

Day 234 - Rough Morning
This was done after a long Sunday of recovery. I couldn't post it last night because staring at a bright monitor and sitting up were difficult tasks after a long Saturday of... celebrating.
Day 233 - Ortiz
I went to my Fantasy Football Draft this weekend. I did this sketch of a buddy of mine prior to the festivities starting, but I had to hurry because we were about to start up an intense game of Wiffle Ball and I didn't want to be the "Artist" who ends up picked last.
Day 232 - Batman
Here's another request from my son. He wanted Batman. The only problem was when he was sitting on my lap while I was painting Batman, he said, "Where's the Joker Daddy?"

Day 231 - Thank you DQ's
The D'Acquisto's have allowed 16 of us knuckleheads to head up to their awesome ranch in Santa Rosa. And this isn't the FIRST time. They've been letting us use their beautiful (I'm talking Sunset Magazine Beautiful) property for our Fantasy Football Draft for going on five years now. Thank you from all of us. And a special thanks to Mark DQ for always setting up the entire event with food and the likes. The Live Draft wouldn't be the same anywhere else.

Day 230 - Fantasy Football Draft Board
Yes, I play fantasy football. And to take it even farther I am the commissioner of a league. This league consists of guys I played Rugby with in college, college buddies, friends I've had since I was young, and my cousin. This league has been going on for NINE years now. We play fantasy football so we can get together once a year and act like we're 21 all over again. There is booze, there is shat talking, and there is a fantasy draft in there somewhere. Here is an image of this year's draft board that is drawn by hand. This year's draft falls on this coming Saturday. Wish me luck. I'm picking 13th of 16 teams. The odds are not in my favor.
Just to give you some scale on these boards. There are two boards about three feet long and two feel high. I can't wait for this Saturday.

Day 228 - Robot
I've always loved the fact that if you put little stick figures in any drawing it completely changes the scale of the subject.

Day 227 - Jack Burton. Me!
I loved "Big Trouble in Little China" as a kid. I haven't seen it years, but something tells me it will hold up. "Yessir. The check is in the mail."

Day 226 - Movie Night
Tonight my wife and I were talking about movies we saw while growing up. The conversation flashed me back to that feeling when I was ten and I'd just seen a film like "The Dark Crystal" or "Raiders of the Lost Ark". Those were awesome times.

Day 223 - Hulk
Okay, so my son didn't ask for the Hulk tonight. I just drew him to keep up with the superhero theme that has been running on and off lately. I need to get better at drawing these. Anyway, tonight I used reference of Mike Tyson for my pose and you can clearly see that the scale of the hulk feels shorter like Tyson and not massive like the Hulk should feel. I really need to push my drawing to the character and away from the reference. Lesson learned.

Day 221 - Brian
Today's drawing is dedicated to my editor Brian Mendenhall. He's my editor because he can't stand my ridiculous puns or bad jokes. So in order to shut me up he helps make them funnier. He also sits next to me at work, which can't be easy for him. If you've found a piece witty and found it humorous Brian probably had a hand in it. If you thought it wasn't well thought out or just bad, well then I probably did it by myself late at night. Thanks for the help Brian.

Day 220 - Wolverine
This was another request via my son. Drawing these superheros has made me realize I need to learn how to draw superheros.

Day 219 - Darth Chase
Tonight I showed my son, Chase, Star Wars (The original, Episode IV: A New Hope) for the first time. It was the first he'd seen any Star Wars of any kind. I was excited. He was excited. It was amazing sitting there and watching my childhood favorite unfold before his eyes. When the movie was over I asked him if he liked it. He said "YEAH!" with wide eyes and a large grin. But then I asked him what his favorite part was and he stunned me. He said, "Darth Vader!"... WAIT WHAT?!?! When I was a child Darth Vader was scary and dark. My son liked... no LOVED Darth Vader. Does this mean he's evil? I don't know, but I will tell you this about my son: There is good in him. I've felt it.

Day 216 - Iron Man
Tonight I was a bit stumped as to what to draw. So I asked my son. Right now he's REALLY into "Good guys" and "Bad guys", so his response was "IRON MAN!! Draw Iron Man Daddy!" How can you say no to that, right? Anyway, here's my take with some thumbnails in the background.

Day 214 - Pill Buggin'
We've had a couple of guest artists in the past. Now I bring you the first guest writer. My cousin Abe. He's a professional writer too. Obviously I didn't pay him for this one. HA. Thanks for the idea cousin!
